Ramsey Jaynoor he was arrested on charges of having harassed the Sri Lankan  singer Umaria Sinhawansa at the World Trade Centre car park was yesterday released on bail by a Colombo Court.

The suspect Ramsey Jaynoor is an employee of a private radio station.

The defence counsel denied the allegations which had been levelled against Mr. Jaynoor and maintained that the complainant was his client’s girlfriend.

“The complainant is my client’s girlfriend. They have been having an affair for about one year. The girl’s parents are opposed to the love affair. That is why she has been compelled to lodge a complaint. There is no dispute between them,” the defence counsel said.

But the police denied there had been a love affair between them.

Fort police Inspector Priyanka said according to a statement given by the complainant they were just friends.

Having considered the submissions, Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne ordered that Mr. Jaynoor be released on bail and directed Ms. Sinhawansa to appear in Court on March 15 next year.
In a complaint made to the Fort Police Women and Children’s Bureau, Ms. Sinhawansa said she and vocalist Bhathiya Jayakody had participated in a television programme at a private television station. She said when they were coming back to the car park around 11.00 p.m. on November 2 Mr. Jaynoor had allegedly harassed her by obstructing the way and pulling her by the hand.  She said he had even prevented her from moving the vehicle.

Singer Umaria Sinhawansa told police that she had known Mr. Jaynoor for about two months. She said sequent to another complaint by her, the Thalangama police had filed a case against him alleging assault.

Meanwhile, the Fort Police Women and Children’s Bureau said the suspect had committed a punishable offence under Section 345 of the Penal Code. Mr. Bhathiya Jayakody and several WTC security officers had been named as witnesses by police.
